Clyde's

Clyde's at The Jenny Boyd Theatre

What happens when people society has written off refuse to give up on themselves? Clyde's by Lynn Nottage runs at The Jenny Boyd Theatre in Knoxville on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at 7:30 PM. In a roadside sandwich shop, a group of formerly incarcerated cooks start over, one sandwich at a time. Director Katie Lupica brings this two-time Pulitzer Prize winner's work to a Knoxville stage, and the story offers something beyond the kitchen: a look at pride, possibility, and the fragile hope of redemption.

Nottage's script became one of the most-produced plays in America because it understands how to balance hardship with humor. The characters work under a boss who rules with a hard hand, but as bread is toasted and sauces swirl, something unexpected rises: the belief that they can still build something worth caring about. The play runs 100 minutes with no intermission, giving you a complete evening without stretching the story past its natural end.

Share this with someone who appreciates theater that doesn't look away from difficulty but refuses to be defeated by it. A friend who values sharp writing. A partner who knows what it means to start again. Choose the outing because you want to spend an evening with a story that earns its hope rather than borrowing it from sentiment.

Let a night of resilience and small miracles pull you out of the house. Find ticket options for Clyde's and plan a theater evening with someone you'd want beside you.
