About The Jenny Boyd Theatre
The Jenny Boyd Theatre is the University of Tennessee’s newer, flexible performance venue beside the Clarence Brown theatre plaza. Dedicated in November 2025, the approximately 300-seat theatre opened its first productions in 2026 on the former Carousel Theatre site. Its design allows in-the-round, thrust and proscenium arrangements, so the relationship between stage and audience can change by production. It is a separate building and event identity from the Clarence Brown mainstage and Lab.

Plan Your Visit to The Jenny Boyd Theatre
Why can the seating plan change?
The theatre was designed for multiple staging configurations. A production in the round places the audience around the playing space, while a thrust or proscenium arrangement creates a different view. Use the current Jenny Boyd seating chart when selecting tickets instead of relying on a photograph from the dedication or an earlier production.
Where should I park on campus?
Clarence Brown Theatre directs patrons to McClung Tower Garage at 1115 Volunteer Boulevard. Patron parking is free, subject to availability. From the garage, the route through the Humanities Building toward the theatre plaza includes stairs; guests who need a different approach should arrange accessible arrival instead of assuming this is a step-free path.
Staff Lot 23 is restricted. A limited number of accessible spaces are available to visitors with the required government placard, and this lot is the recommended mobility drop-off point. The theatre advises approaching campus from Cumberland Avenue and Volunteer Boulevard to reduce conflicts with arena and baseball traffic.
Who can help plan an accessible visit?
The Clarence Brown box office handles questions about Jenny Boyd performances at 865-974-5161. Discuss accessible seating, entrance routing and the current production’s layout with the team before choosing a seat; the room’s flexible design makes the specific configuration relevant.
The company publishes sensory, listening and interpreted-performance information in its visitor FAQ. Confirm which services are scheduled for the Jenny Boyd production you intend to see. The house manager is the contact for individual assistance requests, rather than assuming the mainstage’s service location also applies here.
How do I distinguish it from the other theatres?
The Jenny Boyd Theatre stands on the former Carousel site at the theatre plaza. Its physical venue address is 1704 Andy Holt Avenue. The neighboring mainstage and Lab use 1714 Andy Holt Avenue, so share the complete venue name when arranging a meeting or a drop-off.
The building’s name honors UT alumna and arts supporter Jenny Boyd. It is used for the company’s current productions, while the older Carousel name appears in historical coverage and construction material.
What should I check on performance day?
Review the current production’s admission and seating information before leaving for campus. Nearby sports events can affect the approach to McClung Tower Garage; the theatre recommends entering from the north through Cumberland Avenue and Volunteer Boulevard. Arrive with time to find the correct building and entrance.
