What the Constitution Means to Me

What the Constitution Means to Me at The Jenny Boyd Theatre

Playwright Heidi Schreck once debated the U.S. Constitution to earn her college tuition. Her script brings those teenage speech competitions back to life, blending history, humor and live debate into a spirited theatrical event. What the Constitution Means to Me opens at The Jenny Boyd Theatre in Knoxville on Wednesday, March 24, 2027, at 7:30 PM. This production of the Tony-nominated Broadway play turns the stage into a civic arena where ideas clash and the audience is invited into the conversation.

Schreck revisits the Constitution through personal storytelling, connecting abstract rights to the lives they shape. The production balances humor with serious discussions of citizenship, gender-based violence and what constitutional promises mean in practice. Director Tarah Flanaghan leads a theatrical experience that asks you to engage, not just observe. If you're drawn to stories that challenge you to think while keeping you entertained, this production offers both.

Bring someone whose perspective adds to the evening. A partner who enjoys debating over dinner. A friend who follows politics. A family member who believes theater should provoke, not just comfort. This production rewards conversation afterward, giving you something meaningful to talk about on the drive home. The show contains strong language and discussions of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse, so choose your companion with that content in mind.

Let the questions this production raises draw you to the theater. Explore ticket options for What the Constitution Means to Me in Knoxville and plan a night that challenges both of you.
